Virtual Seattle Travel Guide to Help You Explore the Emerald City from Home

Ready for another virtual adventure? I’m sharing my virtual Seattle travel guide to help you find adventure and use your creativity even when we are all still staying close to home.

So let’s head to the scenic Pacific Northwest to spend a day exploring Seattle– a city near and dear to my heart! Get ready for a cozy day filled with good coffee and maybe a bike ride or two.

Last year, I shared 3 different virtual travel posts which you can read for more inspiration. Use these guides however you like! Follow them for a fun day at home or pick out the elements you are most excited about. Either way, I really love creating these because they help me enjoy the parts of travel I miss the most- learning about different cultures, trying new foods and escaping from the day-to-day.

Virtual Seattle Travel Guide

Seattle- the city of coffee, incredible hiking and cozy drizzly days. I miss this PNW city and I’m excited to explore it again virtually!

Seattle Fast Facts

Before we dive into our day, here are a few quick facts to help transport you to Washington State’s largest city.

  • The Seattle metro area is home to 3.9 million people
  • Seattle has played a major role in music history. Grunge was popularized in this city and many musicians, including Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Jimi Hendrix, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis got their start here.
  • Seattle was named for Chief Seattle (Seathl)- the Chief of the Duwamish and Suquamish tribes who lived in the region before white settlers arrived.
  • This is a major tech hub and companies like Amazon, Microsoft and Zillow are based here.
  • Seattle is known for its coffee culture. In 1971 the world’s first Starbucks opened in Seattle’s Pike Place Market.

Now that we’ve set the stage, are you ready to dive into your virtual Seattle travel guide? First up, let’s get some breakfast!

Breakfast in Pike Place Market

When you visit Seattle, you won’t want to miss Pike Place Market. This is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. I love visiting early in the morning and eating breakfast in the market before it gets too crowded.

Pike Place Market has been around since 1907, making it one of the oldest continuously operated farmers markets in America and earning it a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. Each year, more than 10 million visitors travel through the market.

For our virtual Seattle experience, let’s enjoy a market breakfast. One of my favorite breakfast spots in the city, Biscuit B*tch, is technically just outside Pike Place. But you can easily grab a biscuit and make your way to the market to pick up some coffee before finding a spot to take in the view of Elliot Bay.

Seattle Morning:

  • Breakfast– Make biscuits inspired by Biscuit B*tch– This recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction is my go-to. Let loose with the toppings. Biscuit B*tch is known for this B*tchwitch sandwiches, so consider filling yours with eggs, cheese, Nutella or anything else that sounds delicious!
  • Coffee– You could head to your closest Starbucks and order the Pike Place Roast. Or make some delicious coffee at home. As long as you have coffee in hand, you are good to go!
  • Set the Scene– Put on this walkthrough video of Pike Place Market or listen to a coffeehouse playlist. Spotify has a few great ones (like Your Favorite Coffeehouse or Cozy Coffeehouse Covers) that can transport you to a Seattle coffee shop.

Afternoon Adventures

Virtual Seattle Travel Guide - The Adventuring Millennial

Ready to keep exploring Seattle? Here are a bunch of options for a fun-filled afternoon. Visit some landmarks, make some delicious treats or get outside to make the most of your time in the Emerald City.

Take a Virtual Tour:

Make a Seattle-inspired Craft:

  • Channel your inner glass-blower and create a piece inspired by Dale Chihuly’s work. The Washington native creates iconic colorful glass sculptures which can be seen at the Chihuly Garden and Glass museum near the Space Needle. Artsy Craftsy Mom has a round-up post with a few simpler Chihuly-like crafts you can make.
  • Get some modeling clay and sculpt your own Fremont Troll. This iconic sculpture is located under the Aurora bridge in the quirky Fremont neighborhood. Get creative making your own sculpture!

Make Donuts:

There are so many great donut shops in Seattle, but you can’t miss Top Pot. This local chain first opened in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood in 2002 and has been serving delicious fried treats ever since. Spend your afternoon miking up and enjoying some Top Pot Old-Fashioned Doughnuts or Top Pot Triple Coconut Doughnuts.

Watch a Show:

Why not use a show to transport you to the Pacific Northwest? Here are my picks:

  • Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown (Season 10, Episode 7) which is available on HBO Max, YouTube, Amazon Prime and AppleTV+.
  • Bizarre Foods America (Season 1, Episode 3) which is available on Amazon Prime.
  • Bizarre Foods Delicious Destinations (Season 3, Episode 8) which is available on Hulu, YouTube, Amazon Prime and Discovery Plus.
  • Any episode of Grey’s Anatomy which is on ABC, Netflix, Hulu and YouTube.

Get Outside:

No matter the weather, you’ll find Seattleites exploring the great outdoors, so I had to add a hike or bike ride to our virtual Seattle travel guide. Take a bike ride through your neighborhood or go on a hike in your local park. Pretend you are breathing in some crisp Pacific Northwest air during your outdoor adventure!

Happy Hour

For happy hour, let’s head back to Pike Place Market. Why not put on some Macklemore for some ambiance.

If you want a drink, you have a few options:

Since we are hanging out in Pike Place Market, make your way over the iconic fish throwers. Watch a video HERE for inspiration and then make an at-home game out of this. I’m thinking you can set up some baskets and grab a few pairs of socks or small stuffed animals to stand in for the “fish.” Set a timer and see how many you can throw into the baskets in 30 seconds. Or, pass the “fish” back and forth with a partner, taking a step back after each pass. See how many times you can pass it back and forth in one minute.

Dinner + A Movie

To round out our virtual Seattle travel guide, let’s end the day with dinner and a movie. Here are some options for a Seattle inspired evening:

Dinner:

After dinner, end your night by watching a movie with a Seattle connection. Sleepless in Seattle, Where’d You Go, Bernadette and 10 Things I Hate About You are a few options!
