5 Beautiful Places in Victoria, Australia to Give You Serious Wanderlust
Ready for some Australian-inspired wanderlust?
I just got back from my first Australia trip. And I knew Australia would be gorgeous. I really thought I was prepared for it.
But I guess I mostly had the image of Sydney Harbor and the Opera House in my mind. So once I ventured south and reached Victoria, I was really blown away.
If you are thinking about taking a trip down under, check out these 5 beautiful places in Victoria for some inspiration.

The Twelve Apostles
Did you know Australia has a coastal road similar to California’s Pacific Coast Highway?
This 151 mile road takes you past some of Victoria’s incredible scenery, including the iconic Twelve Apostles. Although there are only 8 Apostles remaining, these limestone rocks are a must-see.
You can hike to an overlook or walk along the beach for an up-close view of these impressive natural structures.
Loch Ard Gorge
Just west of the Twelve Apostles, you will find another stunning site known as Loch Ard Gorge.
In 1878, a British ship knows as Loch Ard sadly crashed at this site, just one day before reaching their destination of Melbourne.
When visiting the site today, you can learn more about the history, soak up the incredible views from above, or walk down to the beach for a some great photo opportunities.
Melbourne’s Laneways
As a local tour guide told me, in Melbourne you can’t be afraid to go down the dark, narrow alleys.
Melbourne comes alive in the laneways. And these actually aren’t dark or sketchy. Melbourne’s lanes are filled with colorful street art, cafes, restaurants, and shops.
Spend some time wandering the lanes and discovering the best of Melbourne. Some of my favorites include Hosier Lane, Degraves Street and Union Lane.
Yarra Valley
The Yarra Valley is home to 300 vineyards. What else needs to be said?
This cool-climate wine region is less than an hour from Melbourne and makes for an easy day trip. Sign up for a tour so you can visit multiple wineries without worrying about enjoying 5-9 samples at each one.
The Yarra Valley is known for chardonnay and pinot noir, but I also enjoy the region’s sparkling wines and rosé.
St. Kilda
A short tram-ride from Melbourne’s CBD will bring you to the beachside neighborhood of St. Kilda.
Here you can sunbathe, picnic, or windsurf. Check out Luna Park for some Coney Island vibes or simply grab a drink and relax at one of St. Kilda’s many bars.
Many people flock to St. Kilda to watch the sunset penguin parade. Join the crowds along the boardwalk to catch a glimpse of the little guys waddling in from the surf. Stick around after sunset for the best viewing.
